California leads again: Extending protection to individuals experiencing intersectional discrimination

On September 24, 2024, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed SB 1137, making California the first state to explicitly protect individuals facing discrimination based on multiple protected traits. The law amends the Unruh Civil Rights Act, California Education Code and the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEH").
