Judge Mangione joins Judicate West following more than 45 years of combined judicial and litigation experience. He is widely respected for his professionalism, civility, integrity, and ability to connect with parties. These qualities, combined with decades in the courtroom representing both plaintiffs and defendants and presiding over a wide range of civil and family law matters, enable him to effectively guide cases toward resolution.
Judge Mangione served for more than a decade on the San Diego County Superior Court bench after his appointment in 2015. During his judicial tenure, he presided in both the Civil and Family Law Divisions, handling matters that included personal injury, employment disputes, medical negligence, business litigation, and complex family law cases. His experience managing diverse and often high-stakes matters has given him a deep understanding of the legal and practical challenges parties face in litigation.
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Mangione spent 34 years in private practice as a civil litigator, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving personal injury, employment, insurance, business, and tort claims. His extensive trial experience provides valuable insight into the strategies, risks, and perspectives that shape disputes on both sides of the courtroom.
Judge Mangione has long been active in the legal community. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a past president of the San Diego Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). In recognition of his service on the bench, he was named "Judge of the Year" by the San Diego Defense Lawyers in 2025.
