LOS ANGELES — Mikayel Badalyan owes his entire livelihood to U.S. District Judge Dean D. Pregerson.

Badalyan was apprehended at his parents' home in north Los Angeles on an early Saturday morning in February 2012. His dreams of becoming a lawyer were shattered because of bank fraud charges.
