LOS ANGELES - On a recent afternoon, Superior Court Judge John Shepard Wiley Jr. was sitting before a stack of case briefs, readying himself to dig in. Between the plaintiff's motion, the defendant's opposition and the plaintiff's reply, there were easily 4,000 pages to read. He even snapped a fuzzy photo to commemorate the moment.
