Simon teaches 'Art and the Law' at Stanford Law School; is co-author, with Stephen K. Urice and the late John Henry Merryman, of "Law, Ethics, and the Visual Arts," 6th edition (Cambridge University Press 2025). He was appointed to the San Francisco County Superior Court by Gov. Gavin Newsom, December 2022; was a partner at Covington & Burling, 2006-2022, where he served as chair of the firm's Intellectual Property Rights practice; partner, Howard Rice, 2001-2006; associate, Howard Rice, 1994-2001; law clerk for the Hon. Pierre Leval, US District Court, Southern District of New York, 1992-1993, law clerk for the Hon. Stephen Breyer, US Court of Appeals, First Circuit, 1991-1992.
