LOS ANGELES - Bill Burns was working two filling station jobs and three paper routes to pay for a swell 1930 Chevrolet coupe. With all of the lube, oil and filters he was juggling, there was no time for school.
His Scottish-born father, who gave him lunch money every morning, didn't have a clue until the school guidance counselor telephoned one day to ask when Bill would be coming back.
